Please be aware of critical route changes for trucks over 30 feet as a result of Hurricane Helene. These changes are essential for your safety and to ensure that you avoid getting stuck on unsuitable routes. Here’s what you need to know:
General Warning:
• DO NOT use Google Maps, Waze, or Apple Maps in the affected areas. These navigation apps are providing routes that trucks are getting stuck on. Use the information below for proper routing.
Delivering Essential Items to the Affected Area:
1. Crossing the Tennessee/North Carolina Border:
• If coming from Tennessee:
• Use I-81 N to I-77 S to I-40 W.
• Use US 74 E to I-40.
• Do not attempt to cross the NC/TN line on any other roads.
2. From Outside of the Affected Area:
• I-40: Open through Asheville (closed near the TN line).
• I-26: Open through NC (closed near the TN line).
• US 421: Open through NC (closed near the TN line).
• US 74: Open through NC.
• Note: I-40 and I-26 are closed at the TN/NC line.
3. Delivering Within the Affected Area:
• Use viable US and NC truck routes only, unless otherwise marked.
Through Traffic to the Following Areas:
1. Affected Area:
• Do not enter.
2. North and West of North Carolina (TN, VA, and Northward):
• Use I-77 N to I-81 S to I-40.
3. South and West of North Carolina (SC, GA, AL):
• Use I-40 W to Exit 27 to US 74 W to I-75 in TN.
4. Central and Eastern North Carolina:
• Use I-40 E in TN to I-81 N to I-77 S in VA to I-40 E in NC.
