Safety Above All: An Update on FedEx Custom Critical’s ISS Score
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s (FMCSA) Inspection Selection System (ISS) is a tool used at roadside inspection stations to identify and prioritize carriers for safety inspections.
Recently, FedEx Custom Critical’s ISS score was updated from “Optional” to “Inspect” due to exceeding thresholds in two key BASIC categories: Unsafe Driving and Hours of Service (HOS).
This change means that all FXCC vehicles are now more likely to be stopped for inspections, potentially leading to shipment delays or an increase in violations if issues are identified.
To uphold our commitment to Safety Above All, we encourage all contractors and drivers to take proactive steps to improve our ISS score and ensure smooth operations:
• Follow State and Local Laws: Always adhere to traffic regulations and safety guidelines.
• Conduct Thorough Inspections: Perform pre- and post-trip inspections, addressing any defects before operating the vehicle.
• Maintain Your Vehicle: Implement a robust preventative maintenance program to avoid mechanical issues and costly repairs. Reach out to the maintenance department if you have any questions or concerns about your vehicle.
• Verify Logs: Ensure logs accurately reflect the correct driver, especially in team operations.
• Review HOS Compliance: Regularly check that your record of duty status is complete and meets FMCSA requirements.
By staying vigilant and committed to safety, we can work together to reduce inspections, avoid violations, and maintain FedEx Custom Critical’s reputation as a leader in safety and service.
